I had the pleasure of being able to finally attend an Outdoor Painters of Minnesota paintout this past Saturday. It was at Lebenon Hills Park in Eagan, MN. It was great to get together and be a part of this. I met some great people and learned a lot from just watching others work and seeing how they interpreted the landscape. I'm looking forward to next month already.
This was the first painting I did on arriving around 9 a.m. I walked back into the woods and saw this immediately. I kept walking, looking for something else, but this one stuck with me so I headed back and set up.
"Morning jaunt"
8" x 10"
Oil on panel
This one I started at 11:30 or so. I painted with Mike Rada at this spot. It was great to talk with him about the challenges of painting the landscape. I also setup slightly behind him so I could glimpse his process ;) A great person and painter who made me feel very welcome.
"Last snow"
12" x 9"
Oil on panel
We were getting together at 3 to put our work up and talk a bit. I had a little over an hour left after finishing this one, so I setup and attempted another. The quickness with which I did the painting showed though. Colors were all over the place, no harmony. It needs work. If I get back to it, I'll post it here later.
All in all a fantastic day of painting, more for the people I met than anything else.
